ChristenUnie MPs have asked junior justice minister Fred Teeven to report fully on the deportation of an Afghan man, who was sent back to Afghanistan after living in the Netherlands for 18 years.
Feda Amiri, 54, was deported in early January and his family, who were allowed to stay, have not heard from him since.
Daughter Tamana has now gone to Kabul in an effort to find her father. She says her father collapsed on arrival and is now in hospital. It is unclear exactly what happened to him.
Amiri was given an indefinite residency permit in 2000 and applied for Dutch nationality in 2006.
That was refused because Amiri had worked as an officer for the Afghan police during the period of Soviet rule. The Netherlands considers everyone who worked for the police as a potential torturer and refuses them the right to asylum. Teeven then gave the go-ahead for his deportation.
Dutch artist and columnist Tinkebell, who has campaigned on behalf of the family, has also gone to Kabul to meet Tamana and find out what happened.
‘Tamana told me her father collapsed at the airport, went into shock and does not recognise her,’ Tinkebell told Trouw after meeting Tamana.
