Efforts to combat organised marijuana production in the Netherlands are failing, RTL news reported at the weekend.

The broadcaster based its claims on its own research which showed that last year police broke up 5,424 plantations, the same number as in 2011.

In fact, police discover and dismantle around 5,500 plantations every year even though experts say there are around 30,000 at any one time, RTL said.
