Hand grenade found in potatoes

A World War II hand grenade was found in a load of potatoes at a potato processing plant in Dronten on Tuesday.

The grenade was clearly recognisable because its pin was still intact.
According to the Nos, it is a standard fragmentation grenade used by Americans during the Second World War and known as a pineapple.
It is now in the hands of the bomb disposal service.
Dronten is in the Flevopolder – a large area of reclaimed land east of Amsterdam – where dozens of bombs, bullets and grenades from the war period are found every year.
