Coalition negotiators get down to business, no more media comments

Formal negotiations on a new coalition government begin in earnest today, following yesterday’s parliamentary debate on the election results.

The VVD’s Henk Kamp and former Labour leader Wouter Bos have been charged with finding out if it is possible to form a stable coalition between the two parties, which were the clear winners in last week’s election.
During the debate, VVD leader and prime minister Mark Rutte admitted there are major differences between the two parties but said Labour is putting the national interest before party politics.
According to the Volkskrant, there will be no more communication with the media as the ‘delicate’ talks continue in a state room in the Binnenhof parliamentary complex.
On Thursday the Financieele Dagblad said insiders think an agreement could be reached within a few weeks.
