No cash for increasing speed limit to 130 kph, CDA MPs say

The government should not be spending any money on improving road conditions and soundproofing so the speed limit can be increased to 130 kph on most motorways, according to Christian Democrat MPs.

Transport minister Melanie Shultz van Haegen is planning to spend €100m on increasing the speed limit on around 60% of the country’s motorways.
But the ruling CDA say no money should be spent on the plan. Without CDA support, there is no majority for the increase.
Parliament’s transport committee is due to discuss the proposals with the minister on Tuesday evening.
