Public transport companies on strike again

A new round of strikes against the government’s plans to privatise public transport in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague began on Thursday morning with no buses, trams or metro trains running in Amsterdam between the morning and evening rush hours.

Rotterdam public transport company RET will strike on April 12, followed by The Hague’s HTM on April 20.
The government wants to put all three services out to public tender and expects the move to save some €120m. The companies say it will lead to a reduction of 40% in public transport and cost hundreds of jobs.
