Stop trains will not have toilets on board because it is too expensive, transport minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen told parliament on Monday.

The sprinter trains stop at all stations and travel times are not long enough to justify the inclusion of a toilet which would cost €90m, the minister told NOS.
Travellers and staff have already complained about the lack of facilities and last year parliament agreed all trains should have toilets, not least because sprinters are sometimes used on long-distance lines.
A recent report in the NRC concerned a sprinter train driver who crossed the platform to use the toilet in the train on the other side. That train departed with him still on board, leaving his passengers stranded until he could get back to the station.
