The Netherlands will continue to send refugees back to Iraq, even though the UN refugee organisation UNHCR says it is unsafe, Nos tv quotes asylum minister Gerd Leers as saying.
On Wednesday, UNHCR’s representative in Iraq Daniel Endres said during a visit to The Hague that the situation there is too dangerous to return refugees.
Leers said current government policy would not alter, pending a new Dutch government report on the situation in Iraq. This year, 100 refugees have been returned, Nos said.
