Two Dutch nationals on death row in the US

At least two Dutch nationals are among the 3,263 prisoners who have been sentenced to death in the US, according to Reprieve, an organisation which works to help people facing the death penalty world wide.

At least 23 other Europeans are also facing the death penalty, the organisation said at a news conference in Brussels.
Reprieve is currently working on a project to identify all the EU nationals being held on death row in the US.
‘It is surprising how many people in American jails are unaware what nationality they have,’ Reprieve director Clive Stafford Smith was quoted as saying. This is because many are either mentally handicapped or have dual nationality, he said.
