‘Most dads spend enough time with their kids’

Six out of 10 Dutch dads think they spend enough time with their children, news agency ANP reports on Wednesday, quoting a new report commissioned by caretaker family minister André Rouvoet.

The report shows women are happier than men with their partner’s contribution to raising their children – seven out of 10 women think the man of the house does enough.
Some 70% of dads who are in charge of their kids for a fixed day a week feel they spend enough time being a father, compared with 52% who don’t.
The ‘papa dag’, a fixed day off work under parental leave regulations, is increasingly popular in the Netherlands. Parents with children under the age of eight are entitled to 13 weeks of unpaid leave, spread out over at least 26 weeks.
Fathers are more likely to do sport, play computer games and fool around with their children while mothers go shopping and cook with them, the report shows.
