Nationality

It’s official. Poles are the new Moroccans. We’ve had the ‘stealing our jobs’ the ‘gay-hating’ and the ‘criminal’ stories and now a majority of MPs want Poles to go through the same integration process as non-EU residents because they are worried about ghetto-forming and language difficulties.

And at the same time, justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin wants to make people with dual nationality chose whether to be Dutch or not when they reach the age of 18.
Does the minister and the rest of the nationality-obsessed government really think that telling an 18-year-old to chose between, say, being American or Dutch, is going to do boost social cohesion. All it does is divide loyalties.
The more obsessed ministers and MPs become, the more they alienate the non-Dutch and the half-Dutch. Why can’t they just accept that one million people in the Netherlands have more than one nationality? Nationality is irrelevant in today’s society. It just means it’s easier to cross certain borders than others.
The recent criticism levelled at princess Máxima and her search for the true Dutch identity came from the white right-wing establishment. Everyone with just a little bit of ‘foreign’ blood in them knew exactly what she was talking about.
But as the anti-foreigner witch-hunt continues, it’s good to know that when Willem-Alexander and Máxima become king and queen, they will be a Dutch-Argentine couple welcomed wherever they go by the Dutch national anthem which talks about being of German blood and pledges allegiance to the Spanish king.
