Clinton

Several of today’s papers carry somewhat bewildered reports of Bill Clinton’s book signing performance in Rotterdam.

‘It looks like a pop concert is about to begin,’ says the Volkskrant, noting that a three-hour wait did little to deter the thousands of fans who flocked to a Rotterdam book shop to catch a glimpse of Him (De Pers goes as far as to use a capital letter).
‘He’s a nice man to look at,’ elderly sisters Wil Herlaar and Nel Brunink tell the Volkskrant.
De Pers feels obliged to make the observation that ‘his neck is wrinkled and his nose a bit red’ after reporting that one young lady couldn’t resist the urge to give the 61-year-old ex-president a kiss.
And what do the papers think of Clinton’s book (Geef, en verander de wereld) itself? ‘Friendly’ says De Pers. ‘Full of one-liners’ all with the same message, says the Volkskrant. If everyone uses their talents and does voluntary work, the world will be a better place.
