Feyenoord friends raise €30m
A group of wealthy Feyenoord supporters have ‘as good as’ raised €30m to help the Rotterdam football club find its feet again, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.
The Friends of Feyenoord will get a 49% stake in the club in return for the cash.
Businessman Pim Blokland told news website Nu.nl the money has already been committed and should be on the foundation’s bank account before October 2012.
Feyenoord is set to announce an operational loss running to several hundred thousand euros when it publishes its annual accounts next month. However, this is less than the club had forecast in its recovery plan drawn up to meet the requirements of the national football association KNVB.
In particular, the sale of Leroy Fer and Georgino Wijnaldum for a total €10.5m have helped the club improve its finances.
