New chief for armed forces
Major-general Tom Middendorp will succeed general Peter van Uhm as commander of the armed forces, it was announced on Wednesday.
The 51-year-old Middendorp, who is currently operations director of the defence staff, will take over in June 2012.
Van Uhm took on the position in April 2008, the same month his son was killed in a bomb attack in Afghanistan.
