Dutch law is stronger than Islamic law, says justice minister

While Dutch lawyers do take foreign law into account when dealing with civil matters, they are always alert to any infringement of Dutch law, and therefore human rights, junior justice minister Fred Teeven told MPs on Thursday evening.

Teeven was responding to claims by the anti-Islam PVV that Sharia, or Islamic, law is being used in the Netherlands.
Opposition MPs accused the party of stirring up fears and making people angry about something which did not happen. Others accused the party of wasting parliamentary time.
