Prof football clubs say no to Beneliga

The Netherlands’ professional football clubs are not in favour of any moves towards a combined Dutch and Belgian football league, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

Henk Kesler, who heads up the professional football section at the Dutch football association, told the paper that the clubs see ‘nothing’ in such an initiative.
Last week KNVB chairman Michael van Praag told BNR radio that the organisation had sanctioned research into the setting up of a football competition involving top Dutch and Belgian clubs. Uefa chairman Michel Platini had also hinted it could be a good idea.
‘They have nothing to do with it. We and the clubs do and there will not be a [Benelux] league,’ the Telegraaf quoted Kesler as saying.
