'Dirty Jew' chanters not punished

25-02-2009

There will be no punishment for the Feyenoord football supporters who shouted 'dirty Jew' and 'gas him' at Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb last Saturday, says Wednesday's AD.

The supporters were protesting at Aboutaleb and Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen's decision to ban away supporters from matches between Feyenoord and Ajax for at least two years, following violent scenes between the rival fans.

Although the police have the demonstration in the centre of Rotterdam on camera, it has proved impossible to determine who shouted the insults, says the paper.

Aboutaleb also said he did not intend to press charges. 'I have thick skin,' he told the AD. 'If shouted insults is the worst I get, then I can accept it.'

Aboutaleb is an Amsterdammer and supported Ajax before his move to Rotterdam. Ajax supporters are traditionally known as Jews.
