With temperatures up to 29 degrees in the south, summer is back – for one day only

Traffic monitoring group VID is warning of long jams on the roads to the Dutch beaches on Wednesday as the temperature rises to over 25 degrees in much of the country for the first time this August.

The temperature last topped 25 degrees on July 19. This Wednesday is set to be the first official summer’s day this month and, say weather forecasters, it will probably be the only one.

In an average August, the temperature rises above 25 degrees on seven days, and even more in the south. If this month is as disappointing for heat lovers as forecast, 2017 will go down in the record books as having the fewest official summer days since 1993.

The temperature is set to dip back down to the low 20s the rest of the week, with sunny spells and showers. The KNMI predicts little change in its long term forecast.
