Economic crisis had an impact on earnings, men now earn less

euro money banknotesAround 65% of men aged 15 to 65 earned more than the basic welfare level last year, down from before the start of the economic crisis in 2007, the national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

In 2007, 70% of men earned more than the equivalent welfare benefits, meaning they are economically independent, the CBS said.

Just under half (47%) of women earn enough to support themselves, a figure largely unchanged since 2008.
