Eredivisie weekend round up: Twente fire Schreuder after derby defeat

Alfred Schreuder became the first Eredivisie managerial casualty, a perfect start for Ajax shows no signs of stopping and while champions PSV triumph over Feyenoord, writes Neil Adderley.

Willem II 0 1 NEC Nijmegen: Navarone Foor floors struggling hosts

Willem II coach Jurgen Streppel left Ajax loanee Richairo Zivkovic on the bench, but replacement striker Robert Braber failed to punish the visitors.

Braber missed two gilt edged chances in a first half in which Willem II were the better team. At the other end, keeper Kostas Lamprou denied Santos in a rare foray forwards for NEC.

The deadlock was eventually broken against the run of play, when Navarone Foor cut in from the left to send a stunning 46th minuteshot beyond Lamprou, and into the top corner of the net.

Despite Zivkovic and and fellow Ajax loanee Lucas Andersen coming off the bench, Willem II failed to breach a stubborn NEC backline, leaving the visitors to take the three points back to Nijmegen.

FC Utrecht 2 0 Groningen: Utrecht ease their way past toothless Groningen

Utrecht secured a first win of the season as goals from Bart Ramselaar and Timo Letschert saw off a tame FC Groningen.

The hosts should have been in front in the opening exchanges, but the usually reliable Sebastien Haller twice failed to convert.

However, Haller made amends with a brilliant piece of skill to give Ramselaar a run on goal. The young midfielder managing to squeeze home his shot past Sergio Padt.

Groningen supporters were given a first glance of new signing Hedwiges Maduro, but the former Dutch international’s impact was minimal.

Utrecht continued to dominate, yet had to wait until deep into injury time before Letschert left Padt helpless with a fiercely struck shot.

Excelsior 3 0 De Graafschap: Pointless De Graafschap remain rooted to the foot of the table

De Graafschap were condemned to a fourth straight defeat as Excelsior comfortably saw off the newly promoted ‘super farmers.’

Three second half goals from Sander Fischer, Brandley Kuwas and Daryl van Mieghem gave the hosts a first win of the season, and piled more misery on Jan Vreman’s team.

Heerenveen 1 1 PEC Zwolle: Points shared at the Abe Lenstra stadion

Heerenveen got off to a flying start as Sam Larsson burst through the visitors defence before rifling a 4th minute shot past Kevin Begois.

However, the PEC keeper was on hand to deny both Larsson and Branco van den Boomen as Heerenveen pushed for a second goal.

Zwolle found their feet in the second period, as Lars Veldwijk tested Erwin Mulder before Wouter Marinus beat the keeper but saw his effort come back of the bar.

PEC Zwolle’s improved second half display was rewarded when Veldwijk tapped home after excellent wing play from Sheraldo Becker.

Heracles Almelo 2 0 FC Twente: Winless Twente sack coach Alfred Schreuder

A 20 defeat to local rivals Heracles Almelo will go down as the last game of the Alfred Schreuder era in Enschede.

FC Twente announced they had parted company with Schreuder, after the damaging derby loss left the Tukkers on a solitary point from the opening four games.

Goals either side of halftime, from Ilias Bel Hassani and Wout Weghorst, sent the Almelo crowd home happy, while the sacking of Schreuder poured yet more salt on the wounded Enschede club.

Ajax 4 v 0 ADO Den Haag: Perfect start continues for Ajax

Ajax breezed past ADO Den Haag at the ArenA to maintain their 100% Eredivisie record.

Davy Klaassen waltzed through a sleeping ADO defence to provide the opener Anwar El Ghazi, before the roles were reversed for Klaassen to double the Ajax lead within 20 minutes.

A Joel Veltman second half header, and El Ghazi’s sixth goal in four games, sealed the win for Frank de Boer’s team.

Leaving Ajax, who are yet to concede a goal this season, three points clear at the top of the table.

AZ Alkmaar 0 v 1 Roda JC: Promoted Roda move into top four

Roda JC continued their excellent start to the season with a victory in Alkmaar against a sluggish AZ.

The hosts had earlier this week overcome Romanian side Astra to qualify for the Europa League group stage, and it showed in a lethargic performance.

John van den Brom’s men, still searching for a first win of the season, struggled to threaten newly promoted Roda, and the Kerkraders secured all three points through a first half Rostyn Griffiths header.

Vitesse Arnhem 4 v 1 Cambuur Leeuwarden: Vitesse hand out another heavy defeat to Cambuur

Henk de Jong’s Cambuur suffered another battering, this time at the hands of Vitesse, as Peter Bosz’ team moved up to sixth in the Eredivisie.

Cambuur, who had conceded six at Heracles last weekend, fell behind after only two minutes to a Lewis Baker penalty.

The visitors drew level on 28 minutes when Sander van de Streek beat Eloy Room in the Vitesse goal.

However, Van de Streek’s equaliser would only provide a short reprieve for the visitors.

Abiola Dauda punished an error by goalkeeper Leonard Nienhuis, before Guram Kashia made it 31 after the break.

Vitesse, who had missed an earlier penalty, eventually made it 41 after Dominic Solanke came off the bench to notch his first Eredivisie goal.

PSV Eindhoven 3 v 1 Feyenoord: PSV hand Feyenoord first defeat of season

Feyenoord rocked the Phillips Stadion after Jeffrey Bruma found his own net after just four minutes.

It was a confident start from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s visitors, as you would expect from a team with a 100% record. But Champions PSV, slowly gained the upper hand in a pulsating match up.

Both Luuk de Jong and Luciano Narsingh made Feyenoord keeper Kenneth Vermeer work, before Bruma almost made amends with a header that fell just wide.

The Feyenoord resistance was finally broken on 36 minutes when Belgian winger Maxime Lestienne struck a sweet shot past Vermeer.

With only five minutes gone in the second half, Narsingh found Santiago Arias, who evaded a Dirk Kuijt challenge before beating Vermeer to give the champions the lead.

Jeroen Zoet was called in to action twice in quick succession to deny Bilal Basacikoglu, before the PSV keeper thankfully watched a Nicolas IsimatMirin clearance bounce back off a post.

PSV secured the win after Eljero Elia was harshly adjudged to have pushed Davy Propper in the box.

Substitute Jurgen Locadia made no mistake from 12 yards, to leave Phillip Cocu’s side on eight points going into the international break.
