Groningen 2 – 0 Excelsior: Magic Mahi gives Groningen first win

Mimoun Mahi came off the Groningen bench to give the ‘Pride of the North’ a first win in the 2015/16 Eredivisie season. The Dutch U21 wideman staked a claim for a starting place with two goals in the last twenty minutes at the Euroborg.

Tom van Weert came closest for the visitors, but his wayward header was as close as Excelsior came to threatening Groningen keeper Sergio Padt.

Groningen have struggled for goals in their opening games, and despite dominating throughout, it was the introduction of Mahi that eventually swung the game for coach Erwin van de Looi.

Roda JC 1 – 0 De Graafschap: Roda squeeze past pointless De Graafschap

Roda’s excellent start to the season continued as a first half Tom van Hyfte goal made it six points from two games for the Kerkraders. Roda came close to breaking the deadlock with Edwin Gyasi testing Hidde Jurjus. However, the keeper could do
nothing to prevent a van Hyfte near post strike.

De Graafschap pushed for an equaliser after the break, but Roda held on to take the spoils of a tight affair.

Heerenveen 1 – 1 PSV Eindhoven: Champions held at the Abe Lenstra Stadion

PSV Captain Luuk de Jong cancelled out a Caner Cavlan penalty as both sides settled for a point in Friesland. Heerenveen took the game to the visitors, and the opening exchanges saw PSV keeper Jeroen Zoet denying both Luciano Slagveer and Sam Larsson.

The champions responded soon after when firstly de Jong and then Davy Propper, had efforts cleared from the line. PSV winger Maxime Lestienne was twice guilty of missing the target, before the Belgian was denied by a fine stop from Erwin Mulder.

On 55 minutes Caner Cavlan beat Zoet from 12 yards after Propper had been punished for holding in the box. But the Heerenveen lead lasted no more than ten minutes as de Jong latched onto a Adam Maher pass to half volley past Mulder.

Cambuur Leeuwarden 1 – 6 Heracles Almelo: Oussama Tannane blitzes Cambuur

Oussama Tannane was the standout player of the Eredivisie weekend. The in form forward scored four first half goals as a shell shocked Cambuur suffered the biggest defeat in its Eredivisie history.

Opening the scoring with a crisp low strike after just six minutes, within thirty he had claimed his hat trick. And when Tannane fired an unstoppable shot past the despairing Leonard Nienhuis on 40 minutes, the Moroccan wrote himself into the history books as the only player to score four goals in top flight Dutch football for Heracles.

Tannane then turned provider as his through ball was finished by Wout Weghorst at the second attempt. Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a late consolation goal on a
night to forget for Cambuur, before Thomas Bruns completed the drubbing for Heracles on 82 minutes.

PEC Zwolle 2 – 1 FC Twente: Misery continues for Twente

While PEC Zwolle continued a fine start to the season, FC Twente find themselves still searching for a first win. The Tukkers, who have been plagued by financial
troubles, fell behind after conceding a 30th minute penalty. Wouter Marinus clipped just inside the box allowing Lars Veldwijk to make no mistake from the spot.

Captain Hakim Ziyech led a Twente fightback, coming close with a trademark freekick, before prodding home from close range a minute after the break. However, a Ben Rienstra 64th minute strike was enough to secure the victory for Ron Jans’ team, leaving Twente struggling at the wrong end of the table on a solitary point.

AZ Alkmaar 0 – 0 Willem II: Stalemate in Alkmaar

AZ and Willem II played out a dull scoreless draw at the Afas Stadion. Erik Falkenburg came close to giving the visitors an early lead, before Dabney dos Santos and Thom Haye threatened for AZ.

The hosts continued to push Willem II back in the second half, but the Tilburgers dug in as the game limped to the final whistle.

ADO Den Haag 1 – 1 FC Utrecht: All square in Den Haag as Beugelsdijk returns

ADO, who have made a positive start to the season, were given an extra boost this week with the return of fan favourite Tom Beugelsdijk. However, the big defender could only look on as Sebastien Haller converted from the penalty spot.

ADO searched for an equaliser after the break, and only a Sean Kleiber goal line clearance denied Tom Beugelsdijk a goal on his return to the Kyocera Stadion. And just when Utrecht thought they had sealed victory, a last minute Mike Havenaar header rescued a point for Henk Frazier’s men.

NEC Nijmegen 0 – 2 Ajax: Dominant Ajax remain early front runners

Frank de Boer’s team maintained its 100% record with a comfortable win in Nijmegen. Both Arkadiusz Milik and Davy Klaassen came close to giving Ajax a first half lead in which the visitors dominated. And, with NEC struggling for a foothold in the game, the inevitable breakthrough arrived on 47 minutes when a Milik shot beat NEC keeper Hannes Halldórsson.

De Boer saw his side comfortably play out the match and with the clock ticking down, a Rens van Eijden own goal confirmed the win for the Eredivisie league leaders.

Feyenoord 2 – 0 Vitesse Arnhem: Van Bronckhorst and Feyenoord maintain perfect start

In a first half that failed to ignite, only a Lex Immers header gave the Feyenoord ‘legion’ something to shout about. The midfielder heading straight at Eloy Room when it seemed easier to score.

However, it should have been Vitesse heading in to the break with an advantage from the penalty spot. After a rash Rick Karsdorp challenge on Isaiah Brown was left unpunished by the officials.

Vitesse were more than a match for Van Bronkhorst’s Feyenoord until the hosts were awarded a third penalty in three games. Dirk Kuijt, already twice successful from the spot this season, sent keeper Room the wrong way to give Feyenoord the lead on 76 minutes.

A Feyenoord win was confirmed two minutes later when Bilal Basacikoglu waltzed through the Vitesse defence before smartly finishing past Room. With three Eredivisie rounds played, Feyenoord find themselves level on maximum points with archrivals Ajax, although the Amsterdammers top the table on goal difference.
