Zaandam gangland killing is ‘a new low’

police carThe police have received eight ‘interesting’ tip-offs about yesterday’s violent gangland shooting in Zaandam, broadcaster Nos says on Wednesday.

Known Amsterdam gangster Lucas Boom was gunned down in broad daylight on Tuesday by four men in black with balaclavas and Kalashnikovs. Dozens of people witnessed the killing, including children at a nearby school.

‘We’ve had killings during the day before but having a primary school close by is a new low,’ Elsevier crime reporter Gerlof Leistra said.

One person was arrested shortly afterwards and his role in the killing is still being investigated.

A ‘large team’ of detectives are working on the case, which is the latest in a string of gangland killings in and around the capital. Zaandam is north of Amsterdam.

A burnt-out vehicle, thought to be the getaway car, was found later in Amsterdam Noord.
