‘After many years when the number of people taking a summer holiday continued to fall, 2015 shows an increase,’ NBTC-Nipo director Kees van der Most told broadcaster Nos.

‘In total, 10.7 million Dutch people are planning a holiday, an increase of 1.5% on 2014,’ Van der Most said.

Of these, 7.6 million will be going abroad, while 2.5 million will holiday in the Netherlands.

France remains the most popular destination, with 1.3 million Dutch travelling there this year. Spain and Germany are second and third on the preferred destination list.

Of the Dutch staying at home, most will holiday at a bungalow park.
