Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed as Feyenoord coach

Giovanni van BronckhorstFormer Dutch international Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been confirmed as Feyenoord’s new coach with a two-year contract.

Van Bronckhorst is currently assistant to Fred Rutten who is leaving Feyenoord, currently third in the Dutch Eredivisie, after this season.

Van Bronckhorst won 106 caps for Oranje and was part of the Dutch squad which lost the World Cup final to Spain in 2010.

His appointment means the three big Dutch clubs are all being managed by former players. Frank de Boer is at the helm at Ajax in Amsterdam while PSV Eindhoven is managed by Philip Cocu.

TV analyst and former national coach Bert van Marwijk says Van Bronckhorst will do a good job at Feyenoord.

‘I’m really pleased,’ he told broadcaster Nos. ‘He’s a great lad and a good trainer and that is the most important thing.’
