Spring’s almost here: no weather records broken this winter

daffodils springThe 2015 meterological winter, which ends on March 1, is notable for not breaking any records, weather bureau Weeronline says.

With one week to go, it will have been a warm, but not especially warm winter. There was a fair amount of rain but it was not particularly wet. Nor was there a lot of sun, Weeronline says.

The average temperature is likely to be 4.1 Celsius, above the average 3.4 Celsius. There were no heavy frosts and only two light frosts, compared with 10 in an average winter.

There was also just one day where the temperature failed to rise above zero at the De Bilt weather station near Hilversum, compared with seven in an average winter.

There will also have been 200 hours of sunshine, placing this winter 20th on the list of sunniest winters.

The KNMI weather bureau says this week is likely to be around 7 Celsius during the day with some wind and showers. It may drop to as low as freezing point over night.

Note: this article was edited to correct the amount of sunshine, which should have been hours not days.
