Former EU commissioner to spearhead Dutch start-up efforts
Former European commissioner Neelie Kroes has been charged by the government with attracting more start-up companies to set up in the Netherlands.
The government wants the Netherlands to become a European start-up hub and Kroes has been appointed ‘special envoy’ by economic affairs minister Henk Kamp. Kroes was last in charge of the digital agenda at the European Commission.
‘Together with Kroes, the cabinet is going to give a new generation of start-ups the chance to develop their talents, innovate and create jobs in the Netherlands,’ Kamp said.
The initiative has been named StartupDelta and involves government, educational institutions, start-ups, financial backers and industry.
The initiative will be based in the former marine headquarters in central Amsterdam.
