Birds escape from safari park after aviary collapses under snow

hamerkop storkHeavy snow in the south of the country this weekend caused an aviary at the Beekse Bergen safari park to collapse, freeing 10 birds, news agency ANP reports.

Eight spoonbills and two African hamerkop storks managed to fly out of their cage and have not been recaptured.

A spokesman for the park has urged members of the public to report any sightings.

The spokesman said it will be hard for the birds to survive in the wild because of the difficult conditions for finding food.
