Ajax: Frank de Boer blasted by player’s agent

Frank_de_Boer_2Player’s agent Mino Raiola has labelled Ajax coach Frank de Boer (photo) as unprofessional and unhelpful.

The agent of Ajax winger Ricardo Kishna hit back at De Boer after the Ajax coach, in an interview with AT5, claimed the behaviour of both Kishna and Raiola had been ‘bizarre.’

Frustrated with the amount of games he was playing, Kishna had arranged to discuss the situation in a meeting with Ajax technical director Marc Overmars.

De Boer, who was unhappy that both the player and his agent had spoken to Overmars, told AT5: ‘It’s quite bizarre. When young players play less they are fed information by people who have no idea about the situation. They then feel they have to say something.’

‘We know the players, we work almost 24 hours a day with them. Sometimes players just have to face facts.’

Agent Raiola reacted angrily to De Boer’s interview claiming he had been invited by Ajax to attend the meeting.

Sneering

‘Perhaps it would be better to communicate with your director before you go sneering to the press,’ Raiola told Voetbal International. ‘I can’t do anything if De Boer knew nothing about the meeting, or whether he agreed with it or not.’

Raiola also hit out at De Boer for going public on a matter he believes should have been dealt with internally by Ajax.

‘It is unprofessional and unhelpful. Of course Frank de Boer decides whether Ricardo Kishna plays or he doesn’t,’ said Raiola. ‘But it doesn’t mean he can always do whatever he wants. There is an unwritten law in football to sort these situations out internally, in the changing room…

‘You often see someone who has been in a job too long lose their focus. Lately, Frank de Boer has been better at talking to the press than communicating with his players,’ Raiola said. ‘And it is the players who are the most important for Ajax. In this case, De Boer going to the press is nothing more than self-promotion.’

Meanwhile, Ajax face Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League on Wednesday evening knowing a draw at the ArenA will secure a place in the Europa League Knockout stages.
