More signs of recovery: house prices rise for fifth month in a row

House prices in the Netherlands rose for a fifth month in a row in August, with an average increase of 1.7%.

House prices are, on average, now back at their May 2003 level, the national statistics office CBS and land registry said. However, compared with the house price peak of August 2008, house prices are still down by almost one-fifth.

The land registry office said last month the number of homes changing hands in August was up 24% year on year.
