Pro-Gaza, anti-extremism demos planned in The Hague

Officials in The Hague expect some form of demonstration will take place outside the defence ministry on Tuesday in support of the people of Gaza, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

The paper says demonstrators plan to occupy the route to the ministry in order to stop ‘Dutch collaboration with Israeli war crimes’.

During an earlier anti-Israel demonstration in the city 21 people were arrested for trying to set up a blockade around the Israeli embassy.

On Sunday, some 800 people took part in a pro-Gaza demonstration in Utrecht.

Meanwhile, anti-Muslim extremism demonstrators banned from holding a rally in The Hague district of Schilderswijk because of fears of clashes with pro-Gaza demonstrators, are planning to move their protest elsewhere.

Pro Patria says it is shifting to Transvaal because it is one of the two The Hague districts with a large number of supporters of militant Islam.

Last week, the city’s mayor banned all demonstrations with any link to Muslim extremist group IS because of the risk of trouble.
