Inflation back below 1%

The Dutch rate of inflation fell back to 0.8% in May, due to cheaper holidays and food, the national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

Fuel, by contrast, was more expensive. In April, inflation had risen to 1.2%, pushed up by higher holiday prices because of demand over Easter.

Calculated according to eurozone rules, the Dutch inflation rate is 0.1%, which is lower than the eurozone average of 0.5%. Last Thursday, the European central bank decided to cut interest rates to take account of the lower inflation.
