Court bans school bullying programme over privacy concerns

Broadcaster RTL has been banned from broadcasting a programme about school bullying because it is based on footage taken with a secret camera.

The Einstein Lyceum in Rotterdam was one of several schools to protest about the programme, Project P, which involves victims of bullying filming their tormentors in secret.

The court ruled that schools are not public spaces and that pupils and teachers should not have to deal with hidden cameras. In addition, the pupils who were filmed were too easily identifiable and could be recognised on social media channels.

The broadcaster was told it would be fined €250,000 if it went ahead and broadcast the episode.
