Year-end figures show Dutch economy is heading for recovery

The economic situation at the end of December shows clear improvements on the end of last month, the national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

A wide range of economic indicators show more improvement than deterioration, even though all but two are still performing below their long-term average, the CBS said.

Consumer confidence is also improving slightly, although it still remains negative, the CBS said.

The latest issue of the SCP’s quarterly public opinion report also shows an improvement in attitudes towards the Dutch economy. Some 60% of people now expect the economy to remain constant or to improve, compared with 45% in the previous quarter.

Almost 30% now think the country is heading in a good direction, compared with 20% in the previous quarter.
