16 arrested as 300 officials raid trailer park in Den Bosch

Police have arrested 16 people on suspicion of money-laundering in a mass raid on a small trailer park in Den Bosch on Thursday morning.

All 29 residents, including six children, were rounded up and taken away in two buses when the raid took place at around 06.00 hours, Nos television said. Sixteen of the 29 are being held for further questioning.

The raid involved 300 officials, including police officers and justice ministry officials, tax inspectors, the defence ministry and local council staff. The camp had a reputation as a vrijplaats – or settlement outside the rule of law.

There are 10 residential caravans on the site. They were searched for cash and luxury goods as well as bank cards. Police also found a number of weapons.

The area has been sealed off while the investigation continues, Nos television said.
