Christian Democrats continue rise in polls

The Christian Democrats (CDA) and coalition party the liberal VVD are neck and neck in the latest poll, with the CDA just one seat behind.

According to the the Maurice de Hond poll on Sunday, the CDA would have 17 seats in parliament if there were an election now, one seat up on last week’s poll and one behind the VVD who are on 18.

At the last election a year ago, the CDA won 13 seats and the VVD 41.

Labour, also in the coalition government, remains on 10 seats, a loss of 28 seats since the last election. Together, the coalition government would have 28 seats if there were an election now.

The De Hond poll shows the biggest parties remain the anti-immigration PVV with 33 seats and the Socialists with 24. The left-wing liberal D66 is third on 19 seats. At the election, these parties won 15, 15 and 12 seats respectively.

Green party GroenLinks is up two seats at 6, the right-wing christian ChristenUnie up one at 6, animal rights party PvdD up one at 3 and 50Plus up two at 10 seats.
