Dutch minimum wage is ‘enough’ for a decent life

The Dutch minimum wage provides more sufficient income to take care of basic daily needs, according to research by the international Wage Indicator Foundation.

A living wage in the Netherlands is €920 a month, but the minimum wage for an adult is €1,469.40, the foundation says. Low income households are also entitled to financial help with healthcare, childcare and housing.

The foundation says the living wage is the amount needed for a ‘decent life’ and includes the monthly rent of a one bedroom apartment outside of the city centre, public transport, and money for food for one person
