Chip machinery maker ASML raises sales forecast

Chip machinery maker ASML expects to book higher turnover than expected this year, because the demand for smartphones and tablets is picking up.

ASML said in a statement it expects full year sales to reach €5bn, compared with €4.7bn in 2012. The company said earlier it expected turnover would be flat.

ASML booked an 8% increase in net profit in the second quarter of this year, compared with the year earlier period.

Net profit reached €239m as demand for 4G – fast mobile internet – increased. ASML sold 25 new chip machines in the first quarter and 34 in the second.

Last year, ASML signed a €2bn development and investment deal with its main customers, including Samsung, Intel and TSMC.
