Police stop hunt in woods for missing boys

Police have ended their search of woods near the town of Doorn for two brothers, missing since Monday, after failing to find any trace of the youngsters.

Over 100 officers using dogs and a helicopter were involved in the hunt for the children, whose father committed suicide in the woods on Tuesday morning. The search was stopped at 02.00 hours without result and will not resume on Wednesday, the Telegraaf said.

The boys, aged nine and seven, were spending the day with their father but nothing has been seen of them since Monday evening at around 20.00 hours.

Their father filled up his Hyundai Getz car with petrol in Limburg later on Monday evening, giving rise to the hope the boys may have been taken somewhere else. Police in Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg have also been alerted, the Telegraaf said.

The boy’s mother, Iris van der Schuit, said in a Facebook update that she is ‘going mad’ with the lack of news about her sons.
