Anouk tries to break eight years of bad Dutch Eurovision luck

Anouk will on Tuesday night attempt to end eight years of Dutch failure to qualify for the Eurovision Song Contest finals with her own composition Birds.

Anouk takes the stage in eighth place in the first semi-final round and there are high hopes she will get enough points to qualify. Denmark is favourite to win the contest but the Dutch entry is predicted to perform well.

‘I really don’t care where I am in the polls,’ the singer told Novum news. ‘I don’t want to think about it because that will wreck everything.’

Anouk said last year she wanted to represent the Netherlands in the song contest with a self-penned song, bypassing the traditional domestic talent contest. Tros television, which traditionally stages the event, eventually agreed.

The Netherlands last won the contest in 1975 with Teach In and Ding a Dong.
