‘The ball is now in Cyprus’ court,’ says Dutch finance minister

Dutch finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem has described the Cypriot parliament’s decision not to adopt a financial rescue plan as ‘disappointing’.

Dijsselbloem, who also chairs the influential Eurogroup, said he has no plans to amend the details of the package and that the issue is ‘now up to Cyprus’.

‘The offer still stands and the conditions attached to it still stand,’ Dijsselbloem told Nos television.

In particular, Cypriot MPs were angry about plans to seize a percentage of private individuals’ savings as part of the rescue package.

Cyprus must now come up with its own plan to stop its banks collapsing and the country going bankrupt. Bank restructuring, a bond issue and more Russian funding are possible options, the BBC said.
