Prince, Máxima and prime minister to attend pope’s inauguration

Crown prince Willem-Alexander, princess Máxima and prime minister Mark Rutte will all attend the inauguration of the new pope on Tuesday, the state information service has announced.

The prince and the then-prime minster Jan Peter Balkenende also attended the last pope’s inauguration in 2005 but Máxima, who is Catholic and from Argentina, did not attend because she was pregnant.

Deputy prime minister Lodewijk Asscher told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting the decision did not mean the new pope Francis 1 would be invited to Willem-Alexander’s investiture as king at the end of April.
