Sales of supermarket own label products rise 5%

Campina dairy products are the most popular A brand items in Dutch supermarkets followed by Marlboro cigarettes and Douwe Egberts coffee, according to market research group SymphonyIRI.

The company draws up an annual list of the Netherlands’ leading brands. Last year the sale of branded goods in the Netherlands rose 1.5%, but supermarket own brands rose almost 5%.

‘There is a clear trend,’ researcher Ronald Laureijsen told Nos television. ‘If we look at the period 2003 to 2012, own brands rose 7% and A brands a little over 1%.’

The greatest growth last year was in organic and frozen food, Laureijsen said.

Top 10 A brands
