Pilot error to blame for Libya crash in 2010

Thursday 28 February 2013

The plane crash near Tripoli nearly three years ago in which 70 Dutch people died, was caused by pilot error, the Libyan investigators said on Thursday.

The report said the pilots of the Afriqiyah Airways aircraft did not work well together, may have been tired and distracted by busy radio traffic. The aircraft came in too low, which the pilots tried to rectify but failed to manage because of miscommunication.

In total, 103 of the 104 people on board the plane were killed in the crash in May 2010. The only survivor was a nine-year-old Dutch boy from Tilburg.
