Ministers and top officials’ expenses claims to be made public

The expenses claimed by ministers, junior ministers and senior civil servants are to be made public online on a monthly basis, Nos television said on Wednesday.

The expenses were previously only available under freedom of information legislation.

Four years ago, there was an outcry when it emerged the then finance minister Wouter Bos had claimed a pair of sunglasses on the ministry.

The receipts will cover the cost of travel and overnight stays, meals, courses and conferences. Costs relating to security will not be published.
