A number of road-widening and other infrastructure projects are likely to be cancelled because of government budget cuts, the AD reports on Thursday.
It says transport minister Melanie Schultz has drawn up a list of possible projects to be put on ice. These include tram connections in Utrecht, improvements to the A27 motorway and train links between Schiphol, Amsterdam, Lelystad and Almere.
The measures are necessary to meet government spending targets and amount to €6.4bn by 2028, the paper says.
The minister’s suggestions still have to be discussed at a provincial level.
Plans to widen the A27 near Utrecht into a 14-lane highway divided parliament because the proposal involves cutting down 150 trees and sacrificing part of a country park.
