An internet hotline set up by left-wing green party GroenLinks to register complaints about the use of fireworks had more than 19,000 reports by midday December 27.
The hotline was set up on Saturday so people can report the illegal sale and lighting of fireworks in the run up to the New Year celebrations.
Around half the complaints so far centre on firework bombs being set off at night. Others have reported damage caused by fireworks and stress caused to animals.
A large number of GroenLinks supporters want a ban on the sale of fireworks to private individuals. In particular, they say New Year firework displays should be organised by professionals.
Parliament itself is not in favour of a ban.
Fireworks can only be sold to the general public in the Netherlands for a few days before December 31.
