There are strong indications the skydiver found dead in a field a week after his jump may have committed suicide, police told news agency ANP on Wednesday evening.
No-one had reported Mark van den Boogaard, 48, missing and his body was eventually found by hunters.
The police investigation shows there were no technical failings to explain why both parachutes did not open. There are also ‘strong indications’ of suicide, ANP said, without giving further details.
Simon Woerlee, manager of the Nationaal Paracentrum skydiving club in Gelderland told the BBC Van den Boogaard was ‘a friendly and happy man, but a loner, someone who did not really talk to anyone and was always on his own’.
A regular and experienced skydiver, Van den Boogaard was self employed, so was not reported missing by work. He lived alone and was not thought to be close to his family.
