Youngsters with a record need helping hand with jobs: minister

Youngsters with a criminal record who then go straight should qualify for an official certificate of good behaviour within two years rather than four, says junior justice minister Fred Teeven.

An increasing number of employers are demanding a certificate, making it difficult for youths with a record to find work or an internship while on a training scheme.
Having the certificate, known as a VOG, will make it easier for them to find a job or work experience because they will no longer be ‘followed by their criminal past’, the minister says.
