Unions threaten KPN with industrial action in support of pay claim

Unions at telecoms group KPN have threatened to take industrial action unless there is progress in ongoing pay talks by the coming weekend.

‘The action could also hit crucial areas of KPN’s operations, to show that we mean business,’ a spokesman for the Abvakabo union is quoted as saying by news agency ANP.
Talks between KPN and the unions have been ongoing since April. The telecoms group has offered a 1.4% pay rise spread over 13 months. The unions want a 3% rise over 21 months and better pay-offs for staff who are losing their jobs through a reorganisation.
KPN said in April it is planning to reduce its workforce by some 4,000 to 5,000 jobs two years earlier than planned.
