Parents of Farc rebel Nijmeijer have phone call with their daughter

The parents of a Dutch woman who joined Colombia’s Farc rebels 10 years ago had a short telephone conversation with their daughter on Tuesday night.

Tanja Nijmeijer is in Cuba to take part in peace talks between Farc and the Colombian government.
‘It was a short conversation of several minutes, the connection was poor,’ Nijmeijer’s uncle Paul Olde Dubbelink told news agency ANP.
The family said earlier they would travel to Cuba to meet their daughter if possible. Her mother last saw Nijmeijer during a visit to the Colombian jungle in 2005.
